With the summer comes the heat and that usually creates a bit of a slower environment around my house. It seems reasonable to laze around by the pool or putts around in the garden. We try to entertain a little bit more and mark the summer days with somewhat of a vacation mentality. (Not easy for me as I teach classes seven days a week!).I strive to enjoy these days to the fullest because they seem to be so fleeting and as they leave the lovely calm that goes with them has a tendency to weaken. How do you approach the summer months? Are there special times or people that help you to enjoy this season to the fullest? Share with us, inspire us; we get by with a little help from our friends!

Summer is such a wonderful time for me. It gets dark late so I have extra time to do more. I enjoy going to the beach (shore) and walk in the walkboard, read a book and enjoy the sound of the ocean. I love the smell of barbecues. Most importantly I enjoy inviting friends over for barbecues. ~ Martha. Posted on 6/15/2008, 6:03:24 PM.

Summer is bittersweet for me as it marks the ending of the year - it acknowledges that my children are growing up - leaving one grade and ready to begin another. It is that feeling I get from finishing a great book - feeling so satisfied by the impression it has left, but a little melancholy that it's now behind me. This summer I want to leave indelible memories that my family and I look back on fondly in the many summers to come. Metaphoric books that we will cherish "reading" again and again. ~ daphne. The summer to me means spending as much time outdoors as possible. I cherish hanging outside on the patio, sipping on a cool drink, reading a book or magazine, while my son happily plays on his slip-and-slide or runs through the sprinkler on a warm day. I find it’s easier and more relaxing to entertain in the summer months. It’s a great season for catching up with those you don’t get to see as often as you’d like. Time spent with family and friends – good conversation – good food – beautiful weather - Priceless!!! ~ Adrienne. Posted on 6/20/2008, 8:39:12 AM.
Just reading what you all have written relaxes me. Words can draw beautiful pictures. Keep the inspiration coming!! ~ stephanie. Posted on 6/25/2008, 7:14:15 AM.
I am finding that these first few years of parenthood I am redefining how I make memories and approach the upcoming summer. My summer used to be vacations, lazing on the beach, and relaxing with family and friends. Come to think of it that is what I still do but somehow it all feels completely different (I guess there's a lot less lazing and relaxing and a bit more playing). On another note, I wanted to share a bit of success I am feeling: over the past 3 months I have lost 12 pounds and am beginning to feel much better about myself. And this weekend I wore a bikini again!! And yesterday got fitted for a bridesmaid dress that had to be taken in a 2nd time!! I am really learning what it is to eat healthy and I need to keep my activity level up with yoga and these hills of Long Hill to keep kicking my butt (especially pushing a 37 lb. toddler!) ~ Joanne (PT). Joanne, Congratulations on your weight loss!! You have alot to be proud of and the bonus is that you are setting a great example for your daughter in terms of health behaviors and proper nutrition. I appreciate having you at the studio to "bounce" things off of and look forward to your debut as a yoga teacher. Keep up the good work! ~ stephanie. Posted on 6/28/2008, 6:47:24 AM.
The summer brings a much slower pace to my life. There seems to be no urgency to rush around and cram it all in. It means getting up early (and actually feeling rested), exercising at my leisure and just rolling through the day. It means drinking fruity drinks with umbrellas at a beach bar while listening to "feel good" music. It means catching up with friends I've neglected and chipping away at a to do list I've maintained throughout the year. But, somehow this said list seems a bit more doable. It means eating fresh fruits and veggies that don't exist in the dead of winter. For me, the summer just means feeling better. :-) ~ Suzy. Posted on 6/30/2008, 10:14:56 PM.
AMEN SISTER!! ~ stephanie. Posted on 7/1/2008, 8:40:22 AM.
Ahhh summer, there are only two words that are synonymous with summer, THE BEACH! I have been in Jersey all my life and we have always spent 2 weeks in August down the shore. I am fortunate now to have family and friends with homes, so we can enjoy the beach almost every weekend. The sun dancing on the water and the melodic sound of the waves, calm my soul and fill me with such peace, that all my stress just flows from every pore of my being. Reading a good book, taking a walk along the shoreline or watching all the people enjoying the same thing I am, puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart. Ahhhh summer. ~ singing Joanne. Singing, those that know you, know that you have a song in your heart...that's why we call you singing!! ~ stephanie. Posted on 7/1/2008, 8:39:23 PM.
Gardening , friday evenings after work on the deck, on a chaise , shoes off, sipping a cool drink, my husband on the chaise lounge next to me .... this is summer. For me the feeling lasts till mid -September. I don't hurry summer along thinking of dates. ~ Eloise. Posted on 7/7/2008, 9:41:50 PM.
Ahh...Eloise, gardening is my passion! In late August and early September we get to see the sunflowers and then the mums. For the last couple of years I have even grown pumpkins!! Taking care of our gardens is as good for the heart and the mind as it is for the body!!Much love ~ stephanie. Posted on 7/8/2008, 7:21:24 AM.
I enjoy the summer...love how its light later. Love the sunsets that we get to see. I was in New Hampshire last week and the sunset was gorgeous! Beautiful pinks and purples, I love how the sky illuminates with all the colors. I get a deep sense of joy and peace from seeing the sky this way. enjoy your summer!! And the sunsets/sunrises! ~ Jen. Posted on 7/9/2008, 8:57:42 AM.
Sunrises and sunsets are majestic moments of blessing..no doubt about it!! Love to my Jen! ~ stephanie. Posted on 7/9/2008, 11:28:04 AM.
Summer for me is a time for new beginnings. It is the ultimate chance to change your life for the better and always motivates me to get organized and excited about the year to come! Not only is the weather a ticket to relaxation in and of itself, but a lightness seems to take up residence in my being. The longer days and outdoor living is my favorite way to live and I always try to enjoy every moment of it because it is always gone too soon. When I think summer...I think blessings. ~ Samantha. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ~ Marianne Williamson ~
